Welcome to SCEGA Gymnastics

Frequently asked questions

at what age can my child start gymnastics lessons?

We start with a parent participation class at 16 months. We offer classes up to age 18.

Can I try a class?

We offer the first class free for new students. You will be enrolled in the class you try in order to maintain our student/teacher ratio. If you decide not to continue we ask that you let us know.

how many classes per week can my child take?

That is up to you and your schedule and budget. The more often your child attends, the quicker they progress.

what should my child wear?

There are no requirements for attire. It is best to wear something comfortable and stretchy without buttons or zippers. We do have a Pro Shop that sells gymnastics attire. Gymnasts go barefoot.

how many students are in a class?

It varies by age. The younger gymnasts have very small classes but no class will have more than 9 students.

what is the difference between gymnastics classes and tumbling classes?

Gymnastics classes teach all the Olympic events for boys and girls. Tumbling classes are strictly floor skills such as back handsprings, roundoffs, etc. They are taught on our spring floor and trampolines. Tumbling classes start at age 6.

Will i be able to see my child during practice?

Yes, you will be able to see your child at all times. We have several viewing rooms as well as bleachers outside. We do request that a parent stay in the facility when their child is in class if they are less than 5 years, in case they need to use the restroom or have other issues.

can i go in the gym while my child is in class?

Due to safety concerns and liability, we are unable to accommodate parents in the gym other than in a parent participation class.

can i just drop in for a class?

No, in order to maintain our student/teacher ratio you must be enrolled in a class.

can i make up a class if i miss?

We do not offer make up classes. Every day of the week has 4-5 months with five weeks instead of four. We only charge for four classes so you have several "free classes" throughout the year. This makes up for classes you might miss.

how can i pay?

We offer multiple options. You can always pay in the office (in person or over the phone) with cash, checks, credit and debit cards. We also offer automatic charge to your credit or debit card. In addition we take Venmo. We do not offer an online payment option at this time.

When do i pay?

Tuition is always due on the first of the month and late on the 10th. If you do your free class mid month the tuition will be pro-rated. We have an annual registration fee which you pay when you join. This fee renews for everyone in the gym in May of each year.

Do you offer a military discount or sibling discount?

We do not offer a military discount but we have a sibling discount of 10% for the first sibling, 15% for the second, 20% for the third, and 25% for any other siblings.

how does progression through the levels work? how can my child become part of the competitive team?

Each level has a specific curriculum and once a student has mastered those skills they would either be recommended or tested to advance to the next level. As a student progresses to the upper levels they may be advanced to Pre Team and then Team.

can i do private lessons?

Yes, if you are enrolled in a class at SCEGA you can take private lessons. That is arranged directly with the coach.

Do you have other activities at the gym?

Yes, we offer Birthday Parties (see birthday party page for more info) and other special events, usually around holidays. In addition, the students have two performances per year-one in December and one in June.
